Mark your calendar to attend the history making event of the first annual Indiegrrl conference showcasing the best women in the independent music, spoken word, poetry, story telling, dance and comedy industries.

The historical Spencer Penn Centre located in Spencer, VA at the foothills of the beautiful Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains & Parkway will host the conference. Indiegrrl Conference 2008 will provide an excellent opportunity for women in the arts, booking agencies, venues, industry professionals, businesses supporting the arts, and self-represented artists to gather together, network, showcase, exhibit and conduct business. The event celebrates women in the arts and emerging talent with 2 days/nights of showcases from selected original acts and artists. Industry professionals attend as panelists, speakers, mentors, exhibitors and talent scouts to network, do business and share their experience with the registrants.

Over 40 showcase opportunities are available in various categories. The 2008 Indiegrrl Conference will feature 2 days of panels, clinics, workshops, mentoring & demo listening sessions, and vendor exhibit hall trade show. A dinner buffet banquet on Thursday night will feature an industry professional guest speaker and will recognize the Indiegrrl Honorary members. The dinner banquet will be followed by a socializing party in the lounge at the Dutch Inn Hotel.

The showcase submission deadline is April 30, 2008. (click here for 2008 Conference Packet) Selections will be made by June 14 and all final notifications begin on June 16, 2008 and continue until complete. Showcase submission fee is $15. Here are the rules and regulations.

1. Artists that are submitting to showcase must also be a member of Indiegrrl in good standing or must join Indiegrrl at the time of showcase submission. Indiegrrl membership is $30 annually. Your showcase submission is not complete without having your membership in good standing. If your membership payment is not in good standing and if you do not pay it at the same time you send in your showcase application, your showcase submission will not be reviewed and you will forfeit your $15 showcase submission fee.

2. Individual performers that are submitting to showcase must identify as a female.

3. Bands/Musicians/Duos/Groups that are submitting to showcase must be female fronted.

Acts and artists traveling to the 2008 Indiegrrl Conference are responsible for their own travel arrangements. The Dutch Inn located in Collinsville, VA about 7 miles from the Spencer Penn Centre has special conference room rates and amenities for artists attending and industry professionals. Hotel Reservations at The Dutch Inn can be made by calling 1-800-804-6835. The Spencer Penn Centere in Spencer, VA and the Dutch Inn Hotel in Collinsville, VA are accessible by major highways and interstates and are located about 45 minutes from both Roanoke, VA Airport and Greensboro, NC Airport.
